Meet Birthworker/Counselor Shayla

In July of 2016, during my postpartum healing session with my beloved Midwife "Nana Siti", a clear vision came to me to start a Birthing Supply business and provide Homebirth Kits, as well as educate and empower the community about homebirths and natural birthing.

Our first homebirth experience with our daughter, Maya Malawi, was absolutely everything for me and my family! The feeling after having a non-medicated homebirth was so liberating and life changing. Inner strength from our ancestors appeared on that day, and I tapped into that special place only a mother can go during labor. As a family, we were able to experience the birthing journey on another level, alongside the great wisdom and support from our Midwife. We had a beautiful Lotus Birth experience with our first daughter, and our son.

We had our second homebirth in August 2018 and gave birth to another beautiful baby girl. By this time, I knew what to expect in a sense, became more intentional with myself and the entire birthing journey during our second pregnancy and birth. in May 2023, we had our third homebirth and gave birth to our adorable son.

I love sharing our birth stories with other families and expecting mothers that desire to exercise their right to birth naturally at home, and encourage them they too can have this experience as well. After my second birth in 2018, I started to hear more stories about Black women dying from having a hospital birth and experiencing pregnancy and childbirth related complications at 3 to 5 times more likely than White women, including postpartum. Then later discovered that Black infants are dying 2 times more per 1,000 live births. Knowing this, sparked a fire in me to becoming an advocate for Black Maternal Health, Homebirths, Natural Birthing Experiences, Maternal Sepsis, and Sacred Healing Traditions. In May 2021, I become a certified Holistic Birth & Postpartum Doula/Birthworker.
